Re: How's The Church Doing? Report?

Thanks to all. Hard to believe there isn't a simple cash flow report. Glad I'm not crazy.

Re: How's The Church Doing? Report?

Hmmm.... Well NeilZ, I am going to have to think about that. When we pay the mortgage payment, we credit the checking account for let's say $2000. We debit the Liability for $1500 (which is the principal amount) and we debit the Interest Expense account for $500 for the interest portion. Yes, I am u...

How's The Church Doing? Report?

I wish I had taken more than a year of accounting. So, the "Income Statement" tells how a church is doing. Except, it does not include the Mortgage Payment. Example: Last month, the Income Statement said we "made" $3,500. BUT we also paid a $3,000 mortgage payment. So, actually, we were barely $500 ...

Re: Temp Restricted Funds - Necessary? Or Not?

Yes, they are only supposed to be used for what they are given for. I agree that is the purpose of Temporary Restricted Funds. I guess my point is that our small group would not accidentally spend anything in that fund for something else. Conversely, this same small group of bookkeepers are having t...

Temp Restricted Funds - Necessary? Or Not?

I set up 11.5 on September 1 and the month is still open, so I can make changes. We are not a huge church and have a small (2 person) number of people that can cut checks. As such, we are not REALLY worried that money will be spent out of the Choir Fund or the Memorial Fund etc. But, we do want to t...

1 Checking Account, 2 Accounting Funds?

If our church is set up to have two main Funds - "on budget" and "off budget" can both funds use the same checking account? Would that be confusing somehow for reporting or balancing? Would it be better if each Accounting Fund had it's own Checking Account? Or do they actually have to?

Help getting started off square one

I am working through the Accounting setup. I understand it. I just need some advice on how we should configure ourselves. We have a Checking Account that handles all the "normal" budgeted items. We have a Money Market Account that has all the misc. "funds" in it like the Kitchen Fund and the Choir F...
