E-mailing contribution statements

I recently tried to email the contribution statements to the congregation. I needed to change the name of the person doing the mailing to our bookkeeper. Which I did in the File>Preferences>System Setup Option.

The first time I sent the test, I got the following error message; A problem was detected with the connection.
Another test is starting with logging enabled to get more details of the problem.
A ‘Performance will suffer’ alert is normal during logging.

When I check the log, I get the following:
Cannot connect to SMTP server 67.195.15.66 (67.195.15.66:25), connect error 10060

So I started to check and uncheck buttons to see what happens.

I un-checked the “Outgoing e-mail server requires authentication” and “Use advanced sending options”.

Out of 5 tests I got it to connect 2 times, the other 3 were like the above.

I checked the “Outgoing e-mail server requires authentication” box again, and again I connected 2 out of 5 tests.

I then went to the “Contributions” section of PC. I used the “Individual Contribution Statement” to test the e-mail again.

The mail did not go thru, and I got “Authentication required – for help go to http://help. yahoo.com.

This error message also happened when I sent out the mass email a couple of days ago.

On the mass emails. I had the contributions not sent, printed up. When looking through the batch of those statement, a lot of the ones listed were not printed out, and talking to the sever members, they did not get their reports.

Now I’m totally confused I have talked to support at PC, and thought my problems had been solved.

I am asking you for help, I really want to avoid calling my phone company. Has anyone else had these types of problems?

I'm assuming that your outgoing server is at Yahoo ??

When you uncheck the "requires authentication" option, the program is then basically testing to see if the server address is valid. That's why you were able to test successfully a couple of times.

I may have missed it in your original post, if you mentioned this, but only paid Yahoo e-mail accounts' SMTP servers are accessible using this type of software. Free Yahoo accounts are not able to be used in programs like Outlook or PowerChurch Plus.

Our paid account is through sbcglobal.net, but we get our mail from yahoo.com. I have tried all different ways to set up the outgoing mail server. i.e. smpt.sbcglobal.net; smtp.mail.sbcglobal.net; smtp.mail att.yahoo.com; etc. etc. And nothing works.

When I send the test from the preferences it tells me it is connecting, so I am totally confused!

Thanks for the help

Judi,

one of the problems is that AT&T bought SBC, and has folded in many of their domains into their Yahoo mail service.

With the info I found, I am going to assume that you're using an email program like Outlook or Thunderbird to download mail. In which case, this suggested setup may work:

In Powerchurch's system setup, go to the Email tab, and do the following:

Change the SMTP server to smtp.att.yahoo.com:465
Check the checkbox labeled Outgoing e-mail server requires authentication
Enter the username (email address ??) and password used by Outlook to access main. If you're not using Outlook, and using browser accessed email, use that email address and password.
Check the security option labeled SSL.

I'm not sure if the Validate Certificates checkbox needs to be checked, I'd try it without it marked.

Then click the TEST button, and see what happens.
