I have found that the PCP 9 backup utility shows drive A as the ONLY OPTION when I am not running PowerChurch as a member of the Administrator group. In order to backup to a CD or flash drive, I have to use the 'run as' command when I launch PowerChurch.

I have changed the security permissions for the PowerChurch folder and all of the files to give my normal user account Full Control, but it doesn't help.

Is this a bug? If not, please explain the rationale.

I know this may sound like a dumb question, but can you write to the CD outside of PC+ ??

I tried backing up to a CD from other applications (e.g., MS Money) and it worked fine. It appears to be a fluke in PCP+.

Your problem might make more sense (to me ) if you couldn't back up at all. Seeing drive a: is not proof that you can actually perform a verified backup. If you can actually do a backup to drive a: that would be interesting and fun to look into!

Anyway...

The permissions you changed should likely not affect the backup behavior as you've seen. From what I gather you're on an XP machine working in your account, which is not an admin account (and probably shouldn't be) and you are the lucky one to do the backups. The XP administrator should make you a member of the XP 'Backup Operators' group. The Backup Operators can override security restrictions for the sole purpose of backing up or restoring files. It's used so that an administrator can delegate that responsibility to another account (or an automated agent) without giving that person or agent full administrator priviledges. You then should be good to go! Hope that helps and works for you.

My PowerChurch account has all of the privileges available. I am ALSO the PowerChurch administrator, but the CD drive doesn't show up when I backup from that account either. The only way I can backup to the CD drive is to use the "Run As" function in XP Pro and launch Powerchurch as an XP administrator. Very puzzling!

Perhaps you're not understanding my suggestions. Let me clarify...

My suggestions for you have nothing to do with PCP or PCP account settings. You need to change your group memberships of your XP account by adding your XP user account to the Backup Operators group. These configurations are done through your Windows XP operating system and are usually done very easily by the system administrator. Contact me if you have no one to do this or don't know how and I'll walk you through it.

You're right jb--I thought you were talking about PowerChurch permissions. My normal XP Pro account has Power User permissions, which I thought included Backup Operator, but I'll check. If not, I'll give my normal logon that permission and see whether it makes a difference.

We have the same problem with backup capabilities.

Only Administrators can backup. We're working with Windows 2003 Small Business Server by which workstations (WK2) can be assigned privileges. Giving backup privileges to a particular user does not work! Even giving administrator privileges to a user at the local level doesn't work. Only the administrator is capable of backing up to a CD-RW drive. One can backup and restore from a usb flashdrive. Need Help!

We also have the problem described in this thread. I have tried adding my power users to the backup ops group as well but it did not work. In the meantime we are backing up to a flash drive and then writing to CD, but this is not a desireable long-term solution.

If anyone hears of a workaround, I would greatly appreciate it.
