We are running version 11.55 @ ML 10/1/2014
When using the Merge Duplicate Profiles function under the Membership module we noticed that if the two profiles being merged both have envelope numbers the profile being merged into keeps the existing envelope number but the envelope number from the other profile is orphaned. In other words, the envelope number and the corresponding contributions exist but they are not attached to any Personal Profile.
I am curious why the process would not take into account the necessity to re-assign the envelope number and THEN merge the profiles. Or at least prompt for the possibility of a problem occurring when there are conflicting envelope numbers.
Are we doing something incorrectly?

Re: Merging Duplicate Profiles orphans existing envelope num
I just tested that here in the 10/1/2014 build and it worked fine. We've not had a reported problem with it in the years it has been a feature in the program.
Was there anything else special about these two profiles?

Re: Merging Duplicate Profiles orphans existing envelope num
Thanks.
I realize I did not specify that the two profiles being merged have different envelope numbers. When they are merged they have only one envelope number, unfortunately the contributions from the two different envelopes are not merged.
Are your results different?
Thank you so much.

If there was a conflict during the merge process, like another person in the family shared that envelope number, it would be detailed in the next step after asking what you want to do about it. I haven't ever seen it orphan contributions.
Are you able to still see the contributions history in that envelope?

Thanks for the reply.
That is how we discovered the problem. The orphaned envelope is no longer accessible. I restored the records into a from a back up copy of Power Church into testing image of Power Church and was able to enter the old contributions into the merged envelope number. Before doing so we checked for the old contributions from the deleted envelope and they were not merged AND they were no longer accessible. I am not sure how we could have accounted for them.
