Purpose of the Family email address?

Post by John Dykema »

We are getting ready to our directory (v.11). The new field in the Mailing record Family Email. Just what is the purpose of that?

When sending e-mail from Family Mailing List, it uses the family e-mail as the primary address. If there is no family address, then it uses the Personal Profile address.

When sending e-mail from Personal Profiles, Activities & Skills, Contributions, it uses the personal e-mail as the primary address. If there is no personal address, then it uses the Family Mailing List address.

For those people that have one address shared for everyone in the family, you can enter it in one place, rather than on each individual profile. For those e-mail address that apply to individual people (like most do) and not a family or group of people, you would use separate profile addresses, not the family.

That is good news.
Question: When sending e-mail from Family Mailing List, it uses the family e-mail as the primary address. If there is no family address, then it uses the Personal Profile address. Do you know that If both spouses email is the same, does it then email to to both parties?

No, it will only send the e-mail once.

The only exception to that rule is if another family or a person in another family has that same e-mail address, then two e-mails would be sent to the same address. It is grouped by family.
