I am using PowerChurch Plus 7. I have been unsuccessful at getting good quality photos in my pictoral directory. The photos look fine before importing them. Once in the directory, they look terrible. Is there a way to get better quality in the directory?
Thanks.

In order to save hard drive space (which was an issue when version 7 was being designed), any imported images are converted to jpeg, downsampled, and compressed. This is the reason the pictures look different. It's designed mainly for screen-viewing or internal use. The pictorial directory is not meant to be a replacement for a professional directory like you could get from Olan Mills or Lifetouch.

I'm sorry, I don't have v. 7. I have v. 8. Is there any change in 8?

The same concept applies, I'm afraid. I was discussing this issue with Program Development after responding to your message originally, and since 40GB hard drives are on the low side of average anymore, hard drive space isn't at such a premium anymore. They are looking into making the picture import a little more flexible in the future. For now, it's pretty much the same in 8 as it was in 7.

I agree with lizard1631 that with the availability of good photos already in the database - please allow a user choice on quality of photos to be used in a printout of the pictorial directory. Also, a choice of number of photos per page would be a great asset.

Higher resolution photos will be a feature in version 9.
