Posting Quarterly IRS Payment in Powerchurch

Post by Carol Witherspoon »

Just took over treasurer position. Previous treasurer made first quarter IRS payment via EFTPS and then entered the payment into Powerchurch as a manual check entry. She debited the expense accounts for social security and medicare. I'm wondering if she should have debited the liability accounts?

If payroll is setup to properly move money from the expense accounts to the liability accounts when the payroll is processed, the check should have been written out of the liability accounts. You can move the amount paid from the liability to the expense account to correct that.

FYI ... for the next time, since this is an accounting questions, its best asked under that forum category as some people won't see this thread if they only look in Accounting, and it could give them an answer they want.
