We use an outside payroll service, so I'm wondering what is the most efficient way to record our payroll in PC. I don't really need to set up tax tables, etc - the payroll is calculating all that. But I don't want to have to re-key these entries in every 2 weeks.
Would it still be worth it for me to set up payroll or do something else?

Do they do your W-2s properly, with all the proper entries for the minister? Who cuts your checks ?? Are the checks usually the same amount ??Heidilr1 wrote:We use an outside payroll service, so I'm wondering what is the most efficient way to record our payroll in PC. If the answers to all that is yes, then I would just setup some repeating transactions that do the proper debiting/crediting to the checking, liability, and expense accounts.
John Meyers .. your thoughts ??

Yes, they do our W-2s, pay stubs, tax filing, etc. They will vary by a penny or 2 from payroll to payroll, but I could just do repeating entries and make the small changes.
Any other thoughts, would love to hear them.
Trying to learn how to maximize my use of PC and be the most efficient with my time.

Re: Outside payroll service
We don't use outside payroll, so I haven't played with the concept, much.
I think repeating entries is a good way to go.

Frankly, not knowing the size of your staff, you may be paying more for a service than if you did the payroll from within Powerchurch.
Sure, you'd have to do the tax filings, but most states do that online now, as does the IRS, so you may actually save money.

One thing I like about the outside service is knowing the FIT & SIT Payments are correct. I'm not famliar with all the tax filings. Is that hard to learn? I'd love to save the church the money, but don't want to file incorrectly.
Re: Outside payroll service
Not hard at all ... and once Powerchurch is setup properly, the calculations it makes, and the one that the Federal website does, come out the same !!Heidilr1 wrote:One thing I like about the outside service is knowing the FIT & SIT Payments are correct. Re: Outside payroll service
We use an outside service to directly deposit the net pay for our employees directly into their bank accounts. This is very cheap, $25 a month, and 25 cents a transaction.
I use PC for all payroll, including all taxes and deductions. Once you get it setup it's very easy. The payroll section in V11 is greatly improved over previous versions and now even prints the quarterly tax filings directly on forms that can be mailed to IRS.
Don't know how much you are paying, but a few hours to set up the payroll might be worth the effort.
