W2 efile errors

Post by tborgal »

Attempting to efile W2's I am getting the following error every time.

Transmit Failed
The following errors were found in the transmitted data. Please fix these and try the transmission again.

Address_State - This is a required field - Payer
Address_ZipCode - This is a required field - Payer

This is listed for the church and every employee.

I don't see anything wrong on the forms generated in PC+. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong?

Tom,

I haven't tried this yet, but does PCPlus create a file for upload ?? It may be a good idea to check that file if its viewable as text.

I should test this, as the church secretary wants to get this done this week.

If there is a file I have no idea where it is. I will have to look in the data to see if I can find anything. When you get to the window to select whether you want to print W2's or efile them and you select efile the errors come up almost instantly. I was told that I needed to fix the errors but given no information on how.

Just found something else in this area. When you start the process, and you get the screen showing the church name, address and so on. The email address block is not large enough for some email addresses. My church's email address is over 36 letters long, they only allow for 30.

FWIW ... I get different errors:

I looked at the data, and I can't figure what its talking about.

Is this efile of W2's required or suggested. For something that is supposed to be easier it is causing me a lot of grief for 4 employees. I also have TurboTax Home and Business which I have used in the past to generated all my tax forms and it to is automatically going to electronic filing. I tried to use it first because it does both W2's and 1099's and it is free as well. That is after you pay over $100 for the software. But it too has given me trouble in a couple of places. I am usually on board when it comes to using technology, but in this case give me back the paper and postage. I would be all done by now.

From what I heard, the W2 is required to be filed electronically by 1 state. The Federal and other states have the requirement when the number of employees is equal to or higher than a set number. Each state may be different.
The City, State, and Zip need to be on a single line in the system. You may see these problems when you have something like the following:

Code: Select all

Asheville, NC
28806

Tracy,
The data is being moved from the PC+ software which is being entered into boxes under each employee. I have no control over how this is formatted or moved to the efile system as far as I can tell.

I just looked at the screen display of the W2 in PC+ and city state and zip code are all on the same line with no commas.

We'll need to finish diagnosing this via email.

NAME1 appears to be the Church name field. It looks like an extra space between words will return as invalid data.

DOH ... didn't even notice that ... you'd think it would have a better parser ...

I was having the same error about Name1 not being valid :wall: ... after reading your post about extra space creating the error I tried changing the last part of our church name "MyChurch, Inc." --- obviously the efile transmission validation does not like the "," or the "." in the name field .. I changed the church name to "MyChurch" and the transmission worked okay ...
