Bank balance on the balance sheet

Post by Eduardo »

The balance sheet shows in Assets the total balance of the checking account, i.e., $2000. In the Equity section in Temporarily Restricted we see that $400 of that $2000 is in the XYZ Fund. The remaining $1600, which is the cash available to the Operating Fund, is lumped in with the Unrestricted Net Assets (i.e., $99,600). Is it possible for the Operating Fund bank balance to show apart from the Unrestricted Net Assets line?

ASSETS
Bank balance $2,000
Buildings $98,000

EQUITY
Unrestricted Net Assets $98,000
Operating Fund $1,600
Temp Restricted Fund XYZ $400

You can create a separate equity account based on income. If your Operating bank account receives income from a particular Contribution Fund, then instead of having it close-to 01-3110-000, you could have it close-to 01-3111-000 or something. It would still be unrestricted.
