Social Security Employee Tax

Post by churchwoman »

In our tax tables, SS shows 4.2% for the employee portion - In actuality, the program is not computing this percent. It appears to be appx. 4.35 % Is there a program bug or somewhere else in the tables that we need to change another percentage ? We are on Power Church Plus V9.

In addition, do we need to re-issue W2's for 2011 ???

I've not heard of a problem like this in v9, however, are you sure you're on the last Maintenance Release for that version which was issued in June 2010?

As far as reissuing the W-2s, I'm not sure its necessary, as what happens is that extra withholding for SS was taken, and the employees would probably get that back as a refund.

That said, version 9 is no longer being supported as you can see by the date of the last MR, so even if there was an issue, I'm not sure it would be fixed.

V9 is now 4 versions behind, and it may be a good time to think about upgrading to version 11.5, which does have a completely revamped payroll module.

I appear to be having this same issue. I am using PC v. 11.5. I have tax tables for EE (employee - 4.2%) and ER (employer - 6.2%) SSI and utilize those separate pay items for each employee we w/h for.

For my EE SSI ONLY, it appears to be withholding 4.45% instead of 4.2% even though my tax table is setup for 4.2%. I'm not sure what I'm doing improperly. Like I said, all other tax tables are working perfect! Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Are you sure you do not have any other income items that are set to withhold SS that should not be. Does this happen with all employees? I just checked mine and I get exactly 4.2% being withheld.
