Church Plant - Chart of Accounts

Hello PC Community. I'm the bookeeper for our new church (Faith Word Community Church). I narrowed down our accounting software to PC+ and another software and finally decided that I liked PC+ better after using the trial version.

I installed 11.5 today and have been going through configuring everything. But... after going through the Accounting Setup.. I'm a little disappointed and was hoping to find a positive answer here. I was hoping for a full blown already provided chart of accounts. But since we have no assets, liabilities, incomes, expenses, etc. (yet)... the setup gave me a very limited chart of accounts. So now... as I start to figure out our first month's expenses (for instance)... I discover 'holes' in my accounts. For example, we rent a gym for Sunday service. But... my COA doesn't have a rent expense which means I have to add it. Which would be fine but... what would be a good place to add it in the various 'holes' I have? Etc.

It would be nice if a full blown "most used" set of accounts was provided. I realize it might be overload... but I'd rather have more than less.

Any thoughts?

I think you will find enough of an outline of accounts that you can correctly locate "rent" and other accounts within the framework provided.

For example, "rent" could appropriately be placed under "Buildings and Grounds".

If you have other specifics, I'm sure you'll find plenty of help here.

Thanks John for replying but this is exactly my problem. (I must be missing something.) I don't see any "outline" other than the groupings. I still have to create a new account (rent in this example).

Am I wrong in assuming that PC+ has a standard chart of accounts? I figured it did since it set up some accounts already automtically. What would be nice is... give me the list of standard accounts and let me choose whether I want to use them or not (account by account). But I ddn't see anything like that. And again... now I have to setup a new account everytime I come across a new expense (or whatever) I happen to need. This is very, very time consuming.

I copied and pasted a small section of the default chart-of-accounts from the initial installation. Do you have these? (These were on page 4 of the chart-of-accounts).

While rent is not among them, a lot of common accounts are already setup for you.

5. Electricity
5. Water & Sewer
5. Gas
5. Waste
4. Security
4. BUILDING MAINTENANCE
5. Janitorial Supplies
5. Cleaning Service
5. Pest Control
5. Repairs/Maintenance
