split expense accounts

I am new to Power Church and still trying to get the hang of things. I am trying to enter an invoice that has several different expense accounts. Can you tell me how to do that? Example: I am making a Visa payment and the invoice amount is split between operational supplies, vending & fellowship, and charity funds.

Credit cards add a layer of complexity. Usually you would write three checks. One to pay the operational supplies, one to pay the vending & fellowship, and one to pay the charity funds.

Since they all appear on one Visa bill, and you need to pay the credit card vendor, you can do this:
Let's say the amounts are like this:
Operational supplies $20
Vending $30
Charity $45

Vendor: Visa company
CR 01-1110-000 checking $95
DB 01-5230-000 Operational $20
DB 01-5341-000 Vending $30
DB 01-5420-000 Charity $45

Now, here's a trick.

The REFERENCE area will show up on all three expense lines in your reports. What we do is keep the REFERENCE line four characters long.

That leaves more room for your description line on your reports ( I think the REFERENCE plus description is only about 12-15 characters long).

Here's what it looks like:

Vendor: Visa company
REFERENCE: Visa
CR 01-1110-000 checking $95 (description) January 2013 payment
DB 01-5230-000 Operational $20 (description) staplers and paper products
DB 01-5341-000 Vending $30 (description) donuts, crackers, bagels
DB 01-5420-000 Charity $45 (description) soup kitchen supplies

What you will see on your reports will look something like this:

01-5230-000 1/15/13 Visa - staplers and pap $20
01-5341-000 1/15/13 Visa - donuts, crackers, ba $30
01-5420-000 1/15/13 Visa - soup kitchen suppli $45

In other words, it will append the REFERENCE and (description) and cut off after so many characters.
