Orphaned Closing Account Detected

Post by RLM »

I am in the process of making numerous account number changes in a test instance from a backup copy of the last original backup before making those changes in my working copy of Power Church. When I went to Utilities > Reindex I received an Orphaned Closing Account Detected error message. I have never seen this error message before. So I restored that same backup file to the test instance before I had made any changes and manually reindexed that untouched file and received the same message. I have been using PC+ for years and have never encountered this error.

How do I go about troubleshooting this?

I'm guessing that you have one of three things.

1) an income or expense account that has an unspecified closing account
2) an income or expense account that has a closing account in the wrong Fund
3) you have a closing account that really isn't an equity account

Looking for omissions can be tricky.

I would go into Fund Accounting / Setup / Maintain Chart of Accounts and begin in the Income section (4000).

Check every account detail tab one-by-one to see what equity account each income and expense account closes-to. I'm guessing there is either one that is blank, or one that points to the wrong Fund, or one that isn't closing to an equity account.

By wrong Fund, I mean that you have an account in Fund 01 that closes to Fund 02 equity, for example.

Case #3 would be that you mistakingly typed in an income account (or some other incorrect account) in the closes-to field instead of an equity account.
