I have run into a couple of problems when attempting to e-file my 1099's. We have a missionary serving in Germany who we support and we need to supply him with a 1099. The problem is that the address we send the 1099 to is in Germany and I get an error that a state and zip code is required. Is there a work around for this problem?
Also when I start the 1099 process the opening window is populated with all the default information except our federal tax number EIN. The state number is filled in but the federal is not. I can not even find where the state number is coming from. Both of these numbers do get filled in automatically when I process the W2's. What am I missing?

Re: 1099 Electronic Filing Problems
Tom,
It appears you'll need to send the 1099 to your church, then forward it on to the missionary.
I will be writing this behavior up and get it corrected before next year. It appears the 1099 process and the W2 process use different internal values for storing the church/company information. If you complete the 1099 process once, it should store the Federal ID.

Re: 1099 Electronic Filing Problems
Is using the church address for a missionary stationed overseas excepted practice by the IRS?
As far as the Tax ID. I did run the process more than once but not to completion because I was just attempting to e-file and the process never really completed. Would this be after the 1099's a printed? My problem then would be that I process the taxes on my computer at home so the ID is not completed on the church computer. Therefore every time I restore a backup from the church to my home I would lose the ID. I will probably have to make a dummy run at the church to resolve it.
