BUILDING FUND

Post by Carnegie Presbyterian Chu »

Our church uses PowerChurch 8. We have fund 01 which is budgeted items, and fund 02 which is non-budget.

We now need to add a new building fund category. For now the money will be deposited in our general funding checking a/c and then transferred by check to the Endowment Fund.

I will need to be able to post it in contributions (with credit to the donor, same as individual weekly envelopes) and then post it into the accounting module

Should we make this Fund 03, or just include it in Funds 01 or 02. Your suggestions/help, please.

In Technical Support, we're pretty good at answering "How do I" types of questions, but not so good at "Should I" questions. That's usually something you'll have to figure out for yourself. That being said, here are some suggestions:

Are you going to need more than just a couple of income, expense, and bank accounts for this purpose? If so, you'll probably need a new fund.

If you're just tracking what's coming in, and then having it go right back out without tracking all kinds of income and expenses, then incorporating it into an existing fund is probably a good idea. It kind of sounds like this is your situation. Basically, you'll set up a new contribution fund (which is completely different from an accounting fund) that debits your general checking account, and credits some income account. Then, when you're ready to transfer the money, you'd just write a check like you normally would.

This might be the sort of thing you'd want to run by an accountant. Do any of you out there "in the trenches" have any suggestions, or tips based on your own experiences?

Thanks!

Thanks for the response. I don't think that right now we need a new fund as the money will be transferred to Endowment that is entirely separate from our Powerchurch accounts.

Our treasurer can help make the changes/additions to the chart of accounts.
