Chart of Accounts

Hello,
We upgraded to 11.5 and I restarted the accounting setup since the previous Finance Ministry had some duplicates as well as the subaccounts were not correct. I have a few questions:
1. We have two custodians one for the church and one for the family life center. Under staff support I only listed church custodian, but have both a general account and a family life center where salaries will be charged, the other deductions (social security, medicare, etc. will come from the general account). Is this correct?
2. When reviewing the setup liability, expense and income all have the funds listed under them. Coild you explain this?
Thanks as always

Let me see if I understand your first question.
Are you asking if it is okay for two employees' medicare to be charged to the same expense account?
If so, the answer is yes, it is ok.
I'm not sure I understand question #2. It sounds like you are asking why there is a default chart-of-accounts setup. The answer to that is that there are several accounts that are common to most churches, so PowerChurch sets those us automatically.
If I misunderstood either question, please let us know.

Thanks for your response. I was asking if I needed to set up a seperate account for the family life center custodian ( this was how the previous comittee had it). I was thinking since you have support staff and you have both the general acct and family life center acct you just charge to this based on which custodian it is.
I understand about those accounts automatically set up, however when I restarted the accounting (as was suggested since there were so many errors), each category expense, liability and income have all of our funds listed under them. I was comparing the new setup to the old setup and this was not the previous case.

You can separate out the two custodians, or combine them. It is up to you which way you want to do it.
The point is that you have the flexibility to decide which way is best for you.
I still don't understand your second point. When you RESTART ACCOUNTING, you should lose all of your amounts and your customized chart of accounts, so I'm not sure what you mean that you have all your funds listed under them.
Do you mean you still have your customized chart-of-accounts, or dollar amounts?

During the setup it actually showed the various contribution funds (i.e., Tithes, Offering, Youth Ministry, Sunday School, God's Girls, etc.). Should this have not been seen? Should I restart accounting again?
