1099's and Special Speakers

Post by bachristo »

We had a speaker that visited our church several times in 2005 and was paid over $2000. I know that I am required to do a 1099 for him. He does not have a Tax ID though. Do I just leave it blank on the 1099, or do I need to get his SSN and put that on the form?

You need his SS number. You can not submit it to him ot the Government without some sort of Tax ID. What you really need him to do is fill out a
W-9 for you. You can get this form off the IRS Web Site. WWW.IRS.gov
