When trying to reconcile my checking account I entered the statement date as 10/12/07 (the statement date) and the balance according to the bank statement. However, when it went to the screen where it lists the transactions and the balances it's trying to reconcile to it is showing outstanding checks & outstanding deposits past the bank rec date. Not only that, the balance it shows as "Account 1130 balance" is the balance on the books as of 10/26/07 (today). There have been transactions since 10/12/07 that should have no effect on the 10/12/07 bank rec. Why is it trying to reconcile to today's balance instead of the statement balance? This doesn't make any sense, (almost) nobody reconciles their bank account on the actually closing date. The only way to reconcile up to today would be to go online & print a statement as of today & clear all of the transactions up til now & never go from the statements I get in the mail anymore.
Please help!
Thanks

This is actually the proper behavior of the program. You will notice that none of the transactions, new or old, have any effect on the adjusted bank statement balance until you mark that they have cleared the bank.
You could even have several years of transactions showing in the list, but as long as you only clear those that show on the particular bank statement you are trying to reconcile with, the others are not taken into consideration and the reconcile process is successful.

Later Transactions
I don't think you understand what I'm talking about. I'm not talking about old transactions, I know all old transactions will show in a bank reconciliation. I'm talking about transactions after the statement date, and they are effecting the reconciling balance.
