Reconciling Bank Accounts

Post by Heidilr1 »

I finally reconciled one month of our General Fund, then found some entries I need to correct (reversed & re-entered properly). When I look at the reconcile bank accounts screen now, I see nothing else that needs to be cleared, but I am off $408.37. Not sure how to correct this. I'd almost like to "erase" the reconciliation and reconcile from scratch, but don't see this as an option. I have printed the check register and that and the bank statement match. So I'm not sure how I'm off. Where do I start looking for that? Any suggestions? THANK YOU!!

When you first go into the Reconcile Bank Accounts screen, there is a control at the bottom right to include only unreconciled transactions or all data. If you choose All Data, you will then see the full list of transactions in the Reconcile screen, including the ones you previously marked as cleared. There you can toggle each of them back to not cleared and start over if you like.

PS. Also, should I reconcile entries that I've reversed (reconcile both the orig. & the rev. entry) or just leave them unreconciled?

About to pull my hair out :)!

Yep, things like balance adjustments, voids, reversals, corrections, etc. will not ever show up on your bank statement, so you would clear them. You will have the original check and the void listed. Clear them both. They then nullify each other and make a $0 difference in the reconciliation process.

OK, thank you. 1 more question. What if I reconciled, had a $0 difference, clicked done. Now my items are marked Y not just C. Can I undo all of it and start over?

Yes. The items show "C" while working in the current reconciliation and stay that way each time you click the Postpone button. It isn't until you click Done and complete the month's reconciliation that they switch over to "Y" and disappear from the unreconciled items view. Just toggle them back to being blank, the same way you mark them as cleared.
