I have recently restored my PowerChurch due to PC virus. When I attempt to Save File (export file type: word for windows) from Fund Accounting I get this error message.
"This error occurs if you try to open a Microsoft Office document and the file type for that document has been blocked by a registry policy setting. To help secure your computer, Microsoft or the administrator of this computer implemented a registry policy setting that prevents opening this type of file.
To open documents with this file type, disable the registry policy setting. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 922850."
I had an IT person who fixed this for me at initial set-up but I no longer have him. Is this something I can fix by myself having limited computer knowledge? Thanks
I'm using version 11.1PowerChurch
Microsoft Office Word 2007
Windows 7 Professional vs. 6.1
Thanks,
Save File in Fund Accounting

That will explain the problem and link to the Microsoft article to get it fixed.

The option that I and others have resorted to is to export in PDF format rather than Word or Excel.

Yeah Tom, but if you're incorporating the report into something else, the fix is necessary, and really isn't that hard to do.tborgal wrote:The option that I and others have resorted to is to export in PDF format rather than Word or Excel.

Re: Save File in Fund Accounting
Agreed. My problem was that I kept switching it back to the default register settings. Maybe unnecessary paranoia, and since most of the reports I export are just being printed or emailed PDF was the better answer for me.

Tom,
unnecessary paranoia. Most problems with Word files are macros that run when the file is opened. As long as you don't get Word files from strangers, you should be fine.
That said, many of the Anti-Virus programs check these files for these types of Macros.

Re: Save File in Fund Accounting
In Office 2007 and higher, you have the option to define a safe folder, instead of disabling the functionality all together. So, if you have a single folder where you save your reports from PowerChurch into, you can leave the protection in place for the rest of the computer. Older Word doc versions will not be allowed to open unless they are saved in that one folder.

Re: Save File in Fund Accounting
That depends on which version of Office/Word you are using. It's covered for each version in the KB article on Microsoft's web site

Isn't that just typical of Microsoft. In the instruction they tell you for more information on how to create the folder go to the following web site, but the is no web site listed. Am I missing something?
I am using Word 2007.

Re: Save File in Fund Accounting
Found it !!! Just needed the correct search statement "Trusted Location" to find the answer within Word thru the help window. The web site is not displayed on the page that your link leads me to. Set it up and it works just fine. Thanks for that information Zorack.

Funny it wasn't linked. I used the search on their site and came up with this:

Edit: Cross-posted! I hadn't refreshed since reading your original question. Glad you found it.
