We do not have the contribution portion of the software set up yet. How do we record the bank deposits for weekly contributions received?

It doesn't take too long to setup contributions. You will have to assign every giver an envelope number, and create at least Contribution Fund.
If you do not want to do that, you can enter the total contribution amount in Fund Accounting / Enter Transactions.
I am assuming you have created an income account such as 01-4010-000. I will also assume you have a missions income, as well, just for the fun of it, 01-4120-000
If you have $2000 in contributions and $200 in missions income, then this is the transaction:
DB 01-1110-000 checking $2,200
CR 01-4010-000 general tithes $2000
CR 01-4120-000 missions tithes $200
If you do not want to do that, you can enter the total contribution amount in Fund Accounting / Enter Transactions.
