Chart of Accounts

Post by angel1 »

Sorry to keep beating this topic, but I want to be sure that I am looking at every option as the persons on the Finance Team generally look at everything. We were on version 10.4 and are upgrading to 11.5, even though the accounting and COA were set up the accounting module was never used for posting (other than contributions). When I became a part of the team I saw that there were some duplicate accounts under the COA, in past post it was recommended to upgrade and start the accounting setup. I was asked since the accounting was never used could the duplicates be deleted after we upgrade to 11.5? Please advise.

the problem is if the duplicates were posted to in any way. If so, you can't delete them easily, but you can set them to inactive which should remove them from reports.

If they weren't used at all, you should be able to delete them. In fact, I'd delete them in 10.4 prior to the conversion so they won't be brought over at all.

Another option might be to merge the duplicates? If they are in the same category (i.e. two expense accounts for instance) merging them will remove one of them and put all the history into one.
