What is the difference (say, in a W-2) between the two options you offer for setting up housing allowance as item description.

Option 1 is selecting "Housing Allowance" in the "Tax Options" box

Option 2 is selecting "More Options" in the "Tax Options" box and then checking the box for "Housing Allowance."

What are the results of selecting each of these options, please?

There is not difference. Option 1 just sets sets all the options you see in option 2 for you automatically.
