PAYPAL DONATIONS

Post by visionnicaragua »

WE HAVE RECENTLY SET UP DONATIONS VIA PAYPAL ON OUR WEB SITE. WHEN SOMEONE DONATES, YOU GET AN E-MAIL SAYING HOW MUCH WAS DONATED, FROM WHOM, AND HOW MUCH THE FEE IS.
FOR EXAMPLE: I RECEIVED A DONATION OF $200. THEY KEPT $4.70 AS A FEE. MY BANK ACTUALLY RECEIVED $195.30. MY DONOR WANTS FULL CREDIT OF $200. DO I GIVE IT TO HIM AND IF SO, HOW, BECAUSE MY BANK DEPOSIT WOULD NOT BE $200, MY BANK RECONCILIATION WOULD BE OFF. HOW CAN I ENTER THIS IN THE CONTRIBUTION MODULE TO MAKE HIS STATEMENT SAY $200?

There is a thread that could assist you with this problem:

As you see in the replies there, you would have to list the PayPal fees as an expense, and show them as such in Funds Accounting, but you can still give the donor their entire amount credit in the Contributions module.

Hope this helps.

Just a quick note on net-etiquette: please refrain from using ALL CAPS. It looks as if you're SHOUTING, and is harder to read.

We recently reviewed our decision to put a paypal link on our website and decided to take it off precisely because of the fees.

We put it on the site because of our college alumni connections who expressed an interest in continued giving.

If our regular tithers started using the website, however, we would lose the percentage of the fee (I can't remember off-hand what it is).

Yes, we would have to give the donor 100% of the their contribution, and count the fee as OUR expense. That was too expensive, so we pulled the paypal option.

By the way, the paypal option cost less than having a credit card option. Either way, we are back to asking for cash or checks.
