Contributions through Payroll

We just converted to 11.5 from v9. How do I set up contribution processing for an employee through payroll? I started in the "maintain
items" but there is no way to specify the contribution fund.

Did you go into Maintain Item Descriptions?
Once there, select Contribution Deduction when the Add New Item item type screen appears. Once you do that the proper Item Description screen appears, and you should be able to select the Contribution Fund there.
