No Backup drives have been detected

Postby albrooks » Fri Dec 03, 2010 3:37 pm

"No back up drives have been detected when backing up". Drives are recognized when in Restore, Verify or Display Backup Info modes . Memory stick is recognized in back-up mode but not DVD/CD. New problem since installing Windows 7, but may not be relevant. PC V9, Windows 7

V9 does not support DVD drives. This was added in Version 10.4.

I have been able to backup on my dvd/cd drive until now with no problem. Now it does not detect the drive.

That is the hit and miss nature of the third party control used with Version 9.
Version 10 got a new control, however it does not work with the Windows 7 OS.
Version 11 got a new process that uses the controls built into Windows 7, or the same control Version 10 uses (depending on the OS that is).

It may be the same physical drive, but the driver has changed and it is not giving the expected response that your old OS and driver gave.

My 2 cents ... its well worth the price of the upgrade to insure that you have a version of the program that works with Win7, and also gain the new features and improvements versions 10, 10.4, 11 and 11.1 have brought to the user.
