Screen problem

Post by Roy MacLean »

This one is new to me. When I enter the accounting>fund accounting>view posted transactions, there is a column on the far left, just left of the date column that has information in it. Sometimes I can see the information. Sometimes only half the column shows. Sometimes the page only shows half the date column. I've tried everything I can think of to get that column to appear...with no results. Help??

One thing I would check is what your display font size is set to. It may just be to big for the screen. But then you may have already checked that.

Thanks Thorgal...but I did check that. I have plenty of screen...I have, however, found a bug in the program.

When I open the program, I have to close down all the helper screens that I have open, then maximize the window before I go into the Accounts menu. After I do that, then the reference column will appear. To my mind, this is a bug of the first order.

Roy,

What version are you using? And what do you mean by helper screens?

FWIW .. I don't think this is a bug per se, as I've not seen any other issues of this sort mentioned on the forums. Along with the Version, what's the date of the program as shown in the About Powerchurch screen ??

@thorgal - Version is 11.5 and the helper screens I'm referring to come up by pressing <ctrl><q>.

@Neil - date is 04/16/2012

Sorry Roy - can't make <ctrl><q> do anything here so I can not recreate your problem. I have no issue with the display on my system with the same version and MR.

Yor MR is the most current.

Roy,

I have no idea what 'helper screens' you're talking about. As far I can can tell, <CTRL-Q> does nothing within Powerchurch, unless you have local macros you have created.

In addition, I'm running PCPlus 11.5 in a screen resolution of 1280 x 768, and see the left hand column fine, even with the Quick Tasks menu showing, the Posted Transactions windows shows the left hand column fine, and the slider at the bottom lets me see all the columns by sliding it to the right and left as needed.

We would need more details about what these 'helper screens' say or do, so we can understand what they are.

Is it possible that you have recorded a macro for the CTRL+Q combination to open something?

PowerChurch will recognize the ALT+[whatever letter is underlined in the menu] shortcuts, but there aren't any CTRL+ shortcuts that I'm aware of.

I get these quick menus by selecting them (Home Screen, then File>Preferences>User Setup Options, then clicking on the Quick Menus Tab and selecting the Quick Menus that I want to open when the Home Screen displays.

If I shut down any of those menus, I can go to the Home screen, click on Window...and select "Show Quick Menus" OR press <Ctrl + Q> to get them back. Either that or highlight the Window tab and press the letter "M." CTRL+Q is listed as an alternative way to get the same menus.

This works on the home screen only for me...which is fine. This does not solve, however, the main reason I wrote about this screen problem.

Roy,

OK now I see what you are talking about. I am not using any of the Quick Menus so the <ctrl><q> did nothing for me. I have opened a couple of these screens and the report still displays fine for me. Do you have this problem on any other machine or is it specific to one machine?

I agree with Tom ... when I have a Quick Menu open, I have no problems seeing that left hand column.

Two things I can think of off the top of my head is what is the display resolution set for? You could try to set it for something like 1024x768. Can you see a band at the top of the screen that you can click on and move the screen around? It sounds like the screen itself was opened up and is too big to show on the screen. If you can move it around you might be able to get to the edge of that screen to shrink it down a bit? Or move it so you can see the upper left hand corner and click on it to resize the screen?

Let's narrow this down a bit. After I have signed on and before I go to any of the drop-down menus, Look at the upper right of the screen (the minimize screen button, the maximize screen button, and the red "X" close screen button.) If you roll over the maximize screen button AND DO NOT MAXIMIZE THE SCREEN, then go to the accounting drop down, then fund accounting, then view posted transactions, you will see a "chopped" far left hand column.

In order to get that column to appear, you have to first maximize the screen BEFORE you go to the drop down menu. The left hand column will then appear. If you go to the drop down menu first...then no matter what you do that column will not fully appear.

Roy,

this does sound like either a screen resolution issue or that the 'quick menu' on the left hand side is causing the column not to appear.

We've not seen any other issue like this that has not been fixed by a screen resolution adjustment, or closing the side 'quick menu'. It is not a program issue, and the program can only use the resolution setup on the computer, it does not do any resizing.
