Changing Posted Contributions in Fund Accounting

Post by NewhopeChatt »

Can I make a change to a posted contribution in Fund Accounting by reversing it and then re-entering it in accounting?
I have a contribution that was entered and posted in Fund Accounting. Once it was posted I realized that one of the contributions went to the wrong account. Upon doing a reverse and fixing the issue in Contributions it did not correct it in Fund Accounting. So I'm wondering if I can find the incorrect contribution in Fund Accounting and reverse it and re-enter it in FA with the correct account?

If you only posted that change to Contributions, that is, you did not select the Post to Funds Accounting option when you posted Contributions, then you're going to have to do the reversal manually.

Did you look in the View Unposted Transactions function of Funds Accounting to make sure that the reversal is not there ??

Some background. When you reverse the and fix the Contribution in the Contributions module, then Post Contributions to Funds Accounting the system will create the proper transactions for Funds Accounting. For that change to show up in FA, you have to post those transactions.

I did a "reverse" in the Contribution module and have everything posted. Why is the change not showing in Fund Accounting? It's showing the change in Contributions.
The issue I'm having is, since the Contribution was already Posted in Fund Accounting can I just change that posting in FA?

Right ... I understand you reversed the Contributions, and you posted. Did you post to Funds Accounting when you posted Contributions, or did you ONLY post to Contributions?

The following assumes that you used the Post to Funds Accounting option when you posted Contributions

Did you post transactions IN Funds Accounting??

As I mentioned previously, if you reversed and entered the correction in Contributions and then POSTED CONTRIBUTIONS using the Post to Funds Accounting option; the system will create the proper Funds Accounting transactions to do the reversal and update in Funds Accounting. These transactions are then placed in the Unposted Transactions queue in Funds Accounting.

You still have one more step to do .. just posting Contributions will not update Funds Accounting.

If you haven't posted Funds Accounting since you made the correction, these transactions are sitting in the Unposted Transaction queue. So, if you manually correct the Contributions Deposit, but don't realize that these other transactions are sitting in the queue and you post everything there, you'll be making your accounts out of balance.

The following here assumes that when you posted Contribution, you used the Only Post to Contributions option

You'll need to find the original Contribution Deposit in the View Posted Contributions function, Reverse it, then enter a new transactions reflecting the proper income accounts. It is MUCH safer to do the entire transaction over adjusting for the correction in accounts.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your help.
Yes I did post it to Contributions and then to Fund Accounting. I see it in my Posted Transactions, so my question now is, why is it not coming up on my reconcile Bank Account? Even when I say to show all transactions.

What's the date on the transaction, and what is the date range on the reconciliation ??
