Does anyone else out there pay state payroll tax monthly? What report do you use?

I use the Item Summary Report in the Payroll module. Just select the month that you want and all the payroll information will be on it including the total amount withheld for the State. Go to Accounting > Payroll > Reports - Payroll > Item Summary Report. I believe this is the same no matter what version you are using.

I just look at the balance sheet and check the state withholding amount from the liabilities. Quick and easy.

Hmm. If you're withholding it from P/R checks, it should have had a liability account that it posted to that would clear when you paid the taxes and posted the payment. Our payroll is the last day of the month so when the checks are generated and posted, the state withholding tax liability will show on the balance sheet until I post the state tax payment I make.

Do you have this withholding set up in your payroll? Of course, I'm assuming you're talking about a payroll tax that is withheld from the employee. If not, then this info may be moot.

Yes it is set up (payroll state tax employer & employee deduction) to be deducted but I don't have it showing on the report, only Federal. Do you have the SSI and Med on the reports too?

Thank you, Katie

Katie,

If you look at your payroll Item Descriptions under the State withholding you should have two account numbers listed in that window. One should be the Liability account that the withholding is held in before you send it off to the State and the other would be the bank account. What is the number of the account listed in the Liability Account window?

Why are you using a subaccount ?? The ideal setup would be as follows.

2210-000 - Fed WH
2220-000 - Medicare
2225-000 - SS
2230-000 - State
2240-000 - Local

Not sure why subaccounts would be needed for such liabilities.
