Check Reader invalid Scan Magtek Micr Mini

Post by FBCMoyock »

I purchased a Magtek Micr Mini USB check reader. It is part # 22523009 Keyboard Emulation
When I try to scan I get an "Invalid Scan" error. I noticed on Magtek's website that they also have 2 diffeant USB models but the other doesn't say "Keyboard Emulation". Is the scanner I have the same one you sell, or is there a problem with my setup. I saw the Knowledge Based Article on the USB scanner and I have not loaded any drivers, I am using version 11.

If you read this KB article:
http://powerchurch.com/support/kb/kbvie ... icle_id=91

it says that you must install the USB drivers in order for the reader to be recognized by the system. This driver comes on the CD that came with the reader. If you didn't get a CD, the drivers are available for download from the Powerchurch site, you do not have to load the MICRSend program.

The first time the reader is connected, you should be asked for the drivers, point to the CD or the directory where you unpacked the downloaded driver ZIP file.

Once you install the drivers, you may have to check to see what format the reader is sending data in. Check this article for more info: http://powerchurch.com/support/kb/kbvie ... ticle_id=5

In it, it tells you how to check to see if the reader is using the right format, or even if it is scanning at all. Use the test as described using Notepad to find out what its doing.

FInally, what version of Windows are you using ?? That may cause a problem, 64 bit versions of Windows do not have drivers available for use at this time.

Hope this helps.

Scanner Driver Update

According to the MAGTEK website, they now have drivers for Vista and Windows 7, along with 64 bit drivers for XP/Vista/Win7:

USB
APTM - CAPS4 - IntelliPIN - Mini MICR - MICRImage

The MagTek USB driver is necessary to use the APTM USB, CAPS4 USB, IntelliPIN USB, Mini MICR USB, or MICRImage USB models with a Windows Operating System. These devices can be installed on the same PC if required. After you unzip the files to a folder on your hard disk, attach the device to the PC. In order to install them on 32-bit system, select the USB-32 folder; to install them on a 64-bit system, select the USB-64 folder.

Download
Size: 471 Kb
Operating Systems
Windows® 2000/2003/XP/VISTA/WIN7

They can be found at this http://www.magtek.com/support/software/ ... rs/usb.asp.

Wow, that's great news. Thanks for posting that up here. We are testing it now.

Support provided me with a great solution. USB Keyboard Emulation will work after downloading this file and following these instructions.

The following is a link to the MICR Base software, which is available from MagTek. It sounds like the check reader is actually working properly, it just isn't programmed correctly. If it was the model that we sell, the MICR Send software would take care of the formatting when it starts up, but with this being a different model, we don't recognize it and don't set the formatting.

http://www.magtek.com/support/software/ ... 102.01.exe

Of course, this is a Windows exe. Just run it, which extracts a bunch of files to a folder. Inside that folder is MICRBase.exe. Just run that, then do the following:

- Click on Configure
- Select USB KB Wedge from the MICR Type dropdown
- Change the Format field to 3100
- Check the <CR> option box
- Uncheck all other boxes on the screen
- Click the Download Configuration To MICR button to set the formatting

Yep, that would have been the next suggestion as the test as I mentioned above would show what was actually being read by the reader.

I had to use the MICRBase program a few years ago to reset the check reader I had picked up on eBay to use the 3100 format.

I am not the smartest crayon in the box......LOL which folder is it in. I searched for the folder but cant find it. When i ran the file it read that it unzipped it to folder MICRBase.

This should have been posted in your thread as now we're getting separated from your original post.

That said, I don't believe you need to use the MICRBase software, as this is used to set the scanner to the correct symbol set. Since you already said that the symbol set is correct, all you need to make sure you have the correct USB drivers installed for your system.

I'm also going to copy and paste this in the original thread.
