How to setup PCINDEX as a Scheduled Task in Windows XP and 2000

If you're using PowerChurch Plus 8.5 or higher, you can now reindex your data files while PowerChurch is closed. The PCINDEX utility is for preventive maintenance on your data and should be performed regularly. Now you can setup PCINDEX as a scheduled task that will be performed at a specific time. If you are on a network we suggest this task be run at the server, or where PowerChurch Plus is installed locally. Listed below are the instructions for adding this new feature as a scheduled task in Windows XP and 2000:

  1. First you will need to know where PowerChurch Plus is installed on your computer. If you're not sure where PowerChurch is installed on your computer, you can find out. Simply go into PowerChurch Plus, click on Help, About PowerChurch Plus, System Information and look at the Program Directory. Write this down, you will need it later.
  2. Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and choose Scheduled Tasks.
  3. Double click on Add Scheduled Task.
  4. This will start the add scheduled task wizard now click the Next button.
  5. Now the wizard will ask you to choose the program you want to add as a scheduled task. Click on the Browse button in the lower left hand corner of the window.
  6. Find the folder where PowerChurch Plus is installed on your computer. Remember step one when we found out where PowerChurch is installed on your computer? Now you will need to follow that path to locate the PCPLUS folder.
  7. Double click on the PCPLUS folder.
  8. Find the file named PCINDEX (or PCINDEX85.EXE). Left click one time on PCINDEX and click on the Open button.
  9. Now you will be asked to enter a task name and how often you want the task performed. We recommend you leave the name as PCINDEX and you perform the test weekly. Now click the Next button.
  10. Here, you're going to choose what day and time your want the utility to run. We recommend letting the PCINDEX utility run weekly, so keep the task at every 1 week. Keep in mind that the computer will have to be one for the utility to run, but we do suggest that PowerChurch Plus be closed. So schedule a time when you know the computer will be on.
  11. In order to create a scheduled task in Windows XP/2000 a username and password is required. The username and password should be the same as the log in username and password used to log onto the computer. No users are required to be logged on for this task to complete successfully.
  12. Click on the Next button. You should now see a window that says the task has been scheduled successfully, now simply click on the Finish button
