CASS Certification

CASS stands for Coding Accuracy Support System. The CASS certification process matches each address in your database against the post office's national database of addresses. Your address information is standardized to the post office specifications and missing information such as the zip+4 is added to each address.

As a service to our customers, PowerChurch Software is offering to CASS certify your family mailing list. By certifying your mailing list, you can take advantage of lower automation rates and quicker delivery. The process is very simple and will quickly pay for itself.

Even if you choose not to process your mail at automation rates, you will still want to have your list certified. One of the Post Office's requirements for standard (bulk) mail is that the accuracy of five digit zip codes must be verified once a year. By having your address list processed at least once a year, you will more than meet this requirement. Additionally, your mail will be delivered faster and more reliably by having all the correct address elements for each address.

To have your address list certified, create a file on disk of your addresses. Depending on the version of PowerChurch Plus you may be using, the procedure to do this varies:

Version 5.1-6.2
From the Membership menu, select Family Mailing List, then Export Data. Select the U.S. Postal file option. Follow the prompts on screen.

Version 7
From the Membership menu, select Family Mailing List, then Export Data. Select the Mailer's +4 CASS processing file option. Follow the prompts on screen.

Version 8 and above
From the Utilities menu, select CASS Postal Processing. Follow the prompts on screen.
