If one of the parents has primary custody, then you could leave the children under that parent. Then the "other" parent could just check them in by typing in the kids' name (instead of their name, or the other parents' name). I've never had a printing problem with one of my newer computers, so this might warrant a call to tech support. You shouldn't be having those kinds of issues. I would probably try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer, and verifying all the setup options are correct.

At this point, I don't think there's a report that will combine birthdays and anniversaries together in a sorted list. I don't think it would be possible with a custom report either. The only place I've seen for assigning envelope numbers is in the personal profiles. No shortcuts that I'm aware of. Is there something specific you're looking for? Or just expecting something under the contributions module?
