Contributions get split between two checking accounts

We have a General Checking account for operating income and expenses, and a Designated checking account for Donor Restricted Funds/Events, etc. When the counters do their thing on Monday they to the checks that go to one account first, print a report, post it and then do the same with the checks tha...

out of balance beginning balances

I've submitted this question before several months ago, but couldn't find the post to add this to the end. We have an old Accounting Fund that was set up with beginning balances that were out of balance by the amount in Retained Earnings $2200. I don't know how they were able to set it up this way, ...

beginning balances out of balance

I have an old Accounting Fund that has an account balance that dates back to only the starting balance for a Retained Earnings account (i.e. the fund is out of balance). When I run a trial balance for the beginning balances of the accounting fund, it is out of balance by the amount of the retained e...

Re: A/P Vendor Setup to debit another A/P acct

Thanks - I'll give it a try the next time I'm in. I saw another place where it worked that way, so your answer makes sense to me. I'm pretty sure we have our Payroll set up the way you say, and I should have clarified that the other A/P account was only for the voluntary contribution. So when we sen...

Re: Data Entry Auto-Advance

Thanks Neil, I agree that most data entry modules work that way, but I told her I'd ask just in case there's an option. Also, I was referring to any sort of data entry, because the program behaves consistently across the modules. I'm just going to sit with her as she gets comfortable with it. She's ...

Re: A/P Vendor Setup to debit another A/P acct

When I typed the liability account number directly into the account field, it told me that I was entering a number that was out of range.

Re: Data Entry Auto-Advance

Is there a way to turn off automatic advancing to the next field when entering data? Our office manager is getting really frustrated with it because it causes her to overshoot the fields she wants to go to next. Thanks, Ellen Mykkanen Not really. Normally, data is entered in the sequence of the for...

A/P Vendor Setup to debit another A/P acct

In Payroll we deduct money from a staff member's check for her additional contribution to a pension fund. At that time we credit a Liability account for Pensions Payable. When we send money to the Pensions fund I want to be able to set up the Vendor Accting information so that it defaults to a debit...

Re: Change Liability and Net Assets Account Range

Thank you Neil,

Your reply came in time for my Finance Committee meeting tomorrow morning. What you are recommending makes sense to me, but of course we always want to check to see if there's an easier way out.

Re: Change Liability and Net Assets Account Range

Hi Neil, Now that it's time to close the year and start fresh, I want to make sure that we can't just restart but set up accounts 2000-2799 as Liability and 2800-2999 as Equity accounts in the set up. If not, will we need to change all of our income and expense accounts to higher numbers so we can s...

Re: Change Liability and Net Assets Account Range

Thanks Neil, I was afraid of that and will share your answer with the Finance committee. We have a number of other changes to make so it will probably have to be done at the same time and probably at the end of the year.

Change Liability and Net Assets Account Range

Long ago (before my time) we set up Powerchurch without a range for Equity Accounts. Liabilities go from 2000-2999 and our income accounts start at 3000. Our real equity accounts are in the Liabilities range of account numbers from 2835-2999 and I want to be able to change the ranges and the account...
