Getting back Federal W/H from Thrivent donation
Hello A church member had a life insurance policy with Thrivent for about $13K and signed it over to our church. I filled out some forms and the church is now the 'owner' of this - but I did not see anywhere on the forms where I could opt out of withholding Federal Taxes. But, they withheld $1200 or...

Pastor W-2
Hello, Our Pastor has been on the Portico Silver+ Plan and part of that is that employer paid $75 for HSA. I entered the item as print on W-2 box code W and it does not print. There is also an E code which appears in box 12a for retirement. But box 12b does not populate with the W code. Also, there ...

Add Employer-Funded HSA to Payroll
Hello, I found old posts that explain how to add the Employer-Funded HSA to payroll. It says to add it as a "Taxable Benefit" since it's not a deduction and we don't want it subtracted from the paycheck. When I do this, I go to the drop down menu to add the code "W" to the Box 12, W does not come up...

Re: Pastor SECA withholding
OK, the line 2 on the 941 is a bit less than the total on the Wage/Hour report for Q3. Under "Tax Options" in the item description, the Pastor Salary is marked as "Clergy Salary", Housing Allowance is marked as "Housing Allowance", and Social Security offset is marked as "Taxable". What part is not ...

Re: Pastor SECA withholding
Hi,
Just to confirm as I'm doing the Q3 941... on line #2 "Wages, Tips, other Compensation", we do include the pastor salary in this line? We used to subtract out Pastor's salary since we didn't withhold Federal from it.

Old donors show up
When I click on the magnifying glass by the envelope # when entering a contribution, everyone who has ever given to our church appears on the list. i would like to somehow mark some as 'Inactive' so they don't always come up, but because they were assigned an envelope number at one point and there i...

Re: Pastor SECA withholding
Thank you.
When you say to take the Social Security offset and withhold it - that is part of their Defined Compensation in our budget so I don't know how that would look - would we be removing that from their Defined Compensation? Or adding it on to their withholding as an additional amount?

Pastor SECA withholding
Hello, we have a new pastor who is asking if we can withhold their income taxes and pay them to the IRS. I have never done this before. How would I estimate this amount? Is there a percentage? And would I then include them and their income on the 941?

Re: Loan Setup
The loan was taken out to pay off our mortgage, so a portion of it paid off our mortgage and the remainder is sitting in a restricted savings line item and we are saving it for building improvement projects or for other facility emergencies. It is not secured like a mortgage, though.

Loan Setup
Hi, We have had a loan for some time that we have not set up as a loan in PowerChurch. Currently we have it as an Expense line item and we put the payment in the budget as a line item, the monthly payment x 12 is the annual budget. I'd like to fix it for 2021 to show the loan balance on the Balance ...

Re: Cares Act PPP Loan
I am still confused about how to create accounts for the PPP Loan forgiveness reports. I have set up the loan as a liability but then I am stuck- Do we set up separate CARES Act accounts for Payroll and Utilities? If you could show an example of the account setup and how it looks to post payroll and...

Re: Transferred money looks like income
OK I will start doing it that way. I am a new bookkeeper and the previous bookkeeper used transfer accounts and equity accounts and accounts called 'release from restriction' and equity accounts that close to the restricted funds, I think that it could be done in a much simpler fashion. We do have r...

Transferred money looks like income
We have a checking (1110) and a savings account (1210) set up. When we transfer funds from our savings to our checking, our income/expense report shows it as income, when in fact it is money we already had. Is there any way around this?
