Re: Refund to Giver that gave thru Vanco

We have a member that gave thru their debit card by way Vanco. They over gave by 200.00 and requesting a refund. I know that I can refund them thru account payable by debiting the transit Asset account which Vanco use and crediting the bank account and credit the processing Fees. However how do I r...

Re: Tax Exempt 501(c)(3)

We are a small but growing congregation. We formed about 12 years ago and have never filed for tax exempt status but as we grow, the subject comes up more often as purchases are made. We are in Alabama. We have an EIN, a Constitution and By-laws, and we are incorporated. I do our bookkeeping as a v...

Re: Credit Card Rewards payment

I have a different scenario regarding the rewards redemption since my post in 2017. This last time I redeemed them, the only option I had available was to have the credit applied to our next statement. When that statement came, we actually wound up with a credit on our Visa account because the rewa...

Re: Account Activity Report

When printing an Account Activity report for our fiscal year (July-June), the Beginning Balance is .00, but the budgeted amount is $500. I cannot figure out what I need to do for the Beginning Balance to include the budget amount for the year. :wall: Um ... all accounts are zeroed out at the beginn...

Re: Member count in a church directory

I created church directory using Family Mail List / Church Directory. How can I get a count of families without physically counting them? And I assume the church directory is being generated from the MA table- correct? I tried classic, detailed and column views however none show a total count. Than...

Re: Year-end closing

Interesting. Yes, your answers have helped. I appreciate the historical background you have on this software. And it's good to know the software authors have listened to the users over the years. Out of curiosity, is there an established way for users to submit requests for changes? Requests are al...

Re: Processing Refunds from Vendors and Utilities

Our Financial Secretary has been creating Family entries for any vendor or utility that issues a check for a refund of overpayment. This causes our Family Membership list to become bloated with vendors and utilities. Furthermore, the Financial Secretary records these as contributions, likely the re...

Re: Year-end closing

I've always worked in a non-profit setting and have worked with different non-profit fund accounting software (some very expensive ones too I might add), and they all required that a year be closed. The closing would post income and expense account balances into the fund balance (net asset) account...

Our church will be closing its doors and we would like to donate our PowerChurch Plus program to another congregation. Is that possible?
My suggestion is to call the Powerchurch office directly for their advice on Monday.

Re: Year-end closing

Thanks for the answer. I've never used accounting software before where closing the year was optional. This makes things more flexible for sure. Most accounting software was developed for business, not church fund accounting. There's a big difference, and not having to close months, let alone years...

Re: Interim Pastor

I did not make a liability account for this, should I? I have it set as an income item to the IAP per the instructions, do I need a separate liability as well? I knew I forgot something. You then have to create a new Item Description for Other Deduction which will then deduct the amount being sent ...

Re: Year-end closing

We are running PowerChurch 12.2. Our church fiscal year ends Sept 30 and we are running on a cash basis, not accrual. The last time a year-end closing was done was in 2017. The person who did the books before me wanted to be able to make corrections or adjustments in the old year once the new year ...

Thank you Yes, the BoP is set up as liability :) I appreciate your help! And this forum!
Some advice: I would not use the BoP liability account for this, as this is a completely separate payment.

Re: Interim Pastor

The Board of Pensions invoices for installed pastors pensions, medical and death and disability, when I received that invoice I pay and then charge the individual accounting fund for the appropriate pastors amount. The 403 is not with the board directly, 3rd party, it is not actually billed, just s...
