Re: Check Register

When you install PowerChurch, there is a chart-of-accounts already created.

The checking account is usually 01-1110-000

Re: Check Register

Your question sound like you are expecting to find something similar to the Quicken interface, or other accounting systems that bring to something that looks like a checkbook. That is not the case with PowerChurch. You Enter Transactions using Accounting / Fund Accounting / Enter Transactions You vi...

Re: oh dang...is this another mistake?

My suggestion is not to use the restriction mechanism in PowerChurch for this type of missions activity. Rather, create a missions fund, and have all of your missions transactions take place within that fund.

Re: oh dang...is this another mistake?

You should not be making expenses from your income account. Since it sounds like you already have done that, here's how to correct each incorrect transaction: Example: $50 missions expense taken out of income account 01-4130-000 incorrectly, and should be expense account 01-5423-000 CR 01-4130-000 i...

Re: Forgot to release restricted funds!

Secondly, to deal with your previously restricted items. You can make a manual release transaction. It looks like this: DB 01-4810-000 Food Pantry release $50.00 <-- this one, the account number will change per restriction CR 01-4999-000 General release $50.00 <-- this one, the account number is alw...

Re: Forgot to release restricted funds!

My first question is this: Are the donors making these requests, such as building, missions, food pantry, or is the church board making these designations? One thing that will simplify matters is only use restrictions when the donor makes the request. Another way to simplify matters is this: Create ...

Re: capitalization

I'm not aware of any legal limitations on a maximum dollar amount.

When you expense an item or items, it appears on your income and expense statement.

When you capitalize an item, it appears on your balance sheet.

There are pluses and minuses to either.

Re: Withdrawl from Mutual Fund endowment.

To answer #1, you would take the money out of EF-1330-000, which shows the money you have put in plus any "real" interest on the account.

Re: when to delete accounting data

I find it is handy to be able to look up data from previous years, and to make year-to-year comparisons. Not sure what benefit there is in deleting last year's data. There is no "cost" as far as memory or processing time. It is good to purge old data when it is full of unused vendors or unused accou...

Re: Office Equipment Depreciation

To add a depreciation entry of $500: CR 01-1580-000 Depreciation Reserve $500 (which will appear as a negative number, always) DB 01-5940-000 Depreciation Expense $500 To "retire" an item worth $800 that has been fully depreciated that is included in Office Equipment, for example: CR 01-1501-000 Off...

Re: Adding another Accounting Fund

You can use a separate fund for this, and consider the second fund "restricted" without having to go through the actual procedures of restricting it through PowerChurch. We do something similar, because it is not the donors who are requesting the restriction, rather, it is the decision of the church...

Re: Possible Rent scenario

There is a place in payroll where an employee can make a contribution as a payroll deduction. I don't know of any way to setup an automatic contribution as part of a Fund Accounting entry. You can set up a repeating contribution under Contributions / Repeating Contributions, and setup a monthly $100...

Re: Voided Checks

I'm not sure it has anything to do with the voided checks, unless the voided checks totaled $2,619.00. If you have a reconciliation difference of zero, you are good through that statement date. If the balance sheet is off, it is due to some error yet to be uncovered when you enter a newer statement ...

I will try to reconstruct what I think you did, and how to remedy my assumption: I think you initially did this: CR 01-2010-000 credit card liability $407 DB 01-5678-000 some expense $407 Then, I think you did this: DB 01-2010-000 credit card liability $407 CR 01-5678-000 some expense $407 If so, yo...

Re: reconciliation problem

I would need to know the account details.

It sounds like you are entering the 4-digit account number for the Credit Card account as the CR account instead of the 4-digit number for the bank account.
