Date Check?

Post by Jean »

Would you consider adding in the software a date check for the year? Either that or clear the field if something is being typed.

More than once in the account module I will find a year of 0820 which happens when I just type the date in as 08. It is annoying and not worth the effort to void a check and re-enter it just for the right year.

Thanks

I had thought that the system already had this setup, so if you type in '08' in any DATE field, the system will recognize it as 2008.

What version of PC+ are you running ?? And exactly where does this error occur, it could be that the developers missed this location for adding the date verification.

Date Check

Post by Pam »

I have been having the same issue when I enter a date in any date field when setting up a family in the Integrated Data Entry module. I am running the 10.4 version.

Thanks!

I have been playing with this and have found that if you highlight the date - it appears in gray - it works fine with a two digit year, but if you just tab into the date field it only over writes the current date. Therefore you end up with XX/XX/0820. Clearing the field when you start to type in a date would be a nice feature, otherwise you must remember to type the 4 digit year. The other option would be to flag years outside of a certain range as an invalid date.

Then I know its a bug ... the system was originally setup to change the date from two to four digits automatically.

Sounds like something crept into the system during one of the maintenance releases.

As tborgal stated, if you clear the field out before typing the date, we handle two digit years properly. If you don't clear the rest of the field out after typing 03/26/08 as the date (leaving the remaining "20" from the original date that is just being pushed to the right as you type), then 03/26/0820 is what shows in the date field and you have entered a four digit year, not two.

This is common behavior across every text or number entry field in the whole program. They don't automatically clear when you start typing. If the name John Smith is in the Mailing Name field and you click in and start typing John Smith again, the field will show "John SmithJohn Smith" until you clear out the rest of it manually. If you don't clear the rest out, the person's name will be wrong until you notice it and fix it later.

It is a good suggestion to change this behavior on the entry fields, but as far as the dates go, it isn't really a bug, since it is consistent with the behavior of every other entry field in the program.

Hmmm ... that's not the behavior seen according to the original post:

Unless I'm reading those first few posts incorrectly, it was occurring when entering a date for the first time. Perhaps I misunderstood.

I can't think of any date field, other than the custom date fields on the Maintain Personal Profiles screen, that don't already have today's date or some other date already filled in before you tab or click into the field for the first time.

Either way, I think it is a good suggestion for future program enhancement. It has been documented!
