Hi everyone,
We have a member who purchased items for the church using her own credit card. She wants this to be a donation for the church. How should I post this contribution?
TIA!

Re: Contribution of Goods
FWIW ... there really isn't a good way to post this in Powerchurch. What we did was just write a letter to the person thanking them for the donation of the item signed by the pastor (or whomever you designate). We then let the person figure out what to put down on their taxes.Jennifer1970 wrote:Hi everyone,

However, if you want this to appear on their contributions statement for the quarter and on end-of-year, you can do this. First make sure that all contributions were posted properly to Fund Accounting.
Then create a special Contribution Fund for such donations, you could call it Donated Items. DO NOT enter any Fund Accounting numbers in the Credit/Debit locations, just click DONE (or SAVE, I forget which).
This account will then only post to the CONTRIBUTIONS module, and will allow this donation to appear on the statements.

Sample letter for non-monetary contributions
I do not put non-monetary gifts in contributions, but instead write a letter on letterhead for them to use for tax purposes. In this case a Christmas tree was donated valued at $100. The giver's name is in the heading of the business letter with the the gift, value, and date in the body of the letter along with the name of our church. If they want it listed in their contributions, write them a check of reimbursement and have them sign the check and give it back to you OR write you a check for the same amount.
Dear _______,
Thank you for your non-monetary gift of a beautiful Christmas tree on December 1, 2007 to __________ Church. The value of this tree is $100.
Pursuant to Internal Revenue Code requirements for substantiation of charitable contributions, no goods or services were provided in return for the tax Deductible contributions.
Sincerely,
