when I went to backup today, I got a message saying something had to be download and it was a one time thing and just wait...
I waited for an hour and it locked up my computer, couldn't do anything, couldn't close it, so finally had to just turn computer off which I don't like to do. I shut of my zone alarm, malware programs to see it that was causing the problem but it wasn't .....now I can't back up anything.
in the right hand corner by the clock, was an icon saying something about a cd/dvd installation...
what was it trying to download and why did it lock up my computer..

Re: backup problem
The dialog you saw usually appears the first time you do a backup after installation, occasionally it will also appear if there has been a new Maintenance Release installed, and there were changes to the backup module.ardisann wrote:when I went to backup today, I got a message saying something had to be download and it was a one time thing and just wait...

However, this does not always mean that things are being downloaded from the internet, sometimes it only means that if you're running Powerchurch on a network, the local system needs some program files updated from the network server.
I've not seen this issue listed on the forum before, so I'm really surprised at this. From what I've read, you tried the <CNTL-ALT-DEL> to bring up the Task Manager, but it didn't appear ?? Also, you infer that you cannot access the Backup Utility from within Powerchurch ?? Are you seeing any sort of error ??
Not knowing how you have Powerchurch setup its hard to give you any advice, but if you can relay the following info:
Version of Powerchurch (v 9, v 10, etc),
is Powerchurch networked, and is this a client or server machine,
has the current maintenance release was installed?
That said, I'm not sure what the CD/DVD message is, do you see that when starting Powerchurch, or is that a system message ?
With more info, we can be of more help.
BTW ... this almost got overlooked as it was in the forum for questions on the forums. A friendly note for the future here: each area of Powerchurch has its own forum/message area, this normally would be entered under UTILITIES, questions on the Membership Module in MEMBERSHIP, and so on.
This keeps the questions where others who may have the same problem can search and read for any advice and/or fixes.
Hope this helps.

Re: backup problem
The problem was that the desktop link was not pointing to the right executable ??ardisann wrote:I received a reply from support ... guess there can be a problem and I was told to right click the powerchurch icon click on find target and locate the file which was an exe. one ...
