BACKUPS
I have an issue that I am wondering if someone can help me with. I have done the backups in the main program under system admin, and it indicated that the backup was successful, and the verification show no errors, and yet, when I use the backup in any other computer, the information does not come through properly. When checking in membership info, no profile shows, the screen is darkened out but when I go to Locate, the information is there, when I try and add a profile, it indicates no Family is found. Setting up the chart of accounts is pretty well the same problem. Please help!!!

1. You can backup on the server using the System Admin userid fine.
2. When you try backing up on the client computers, it does not backup ?? Is that correct?
3. When you try to restore, it doesn't restore properly ??
4. When you try to add a family on the client, it does not properly update ??
Do I have all those issues correct ??
As a quick suggestion, check to make sure that the program was properly networked according to this knowledgebase article: http://powerchurch.com/support/kb/kbvie ... icle_id=33

Yes to all your clarifications! Can you help me???
Re: BACKUPS
I would first check to make sure the system was networked properly. I'm suspecting that the networked drive on the server was not setup for full access to all users. Follow that article listed above to verify the installation.madmyes wrote:Yes to all your clarifications! Can you help me???

Re: BACKUPS
Hi NeilZ;
So I tried to use the fix that you suggested, and it still doesn't work.
I'll try and restate the issue, and see if that might lead to another suggestion.
I can work on the computer that I originally set up PowerChurch 10, which updated the information from Version 9. (The Church was only using the Membership module at that point in time.) I use the backup utility to backup, and it shows there were no errors, even on verification, no errors.
It is an unnetworked computer at this time.
I have downloaded the PowerChurch 10 program on to my laptop in order to do some more updating at home rather than having to tie up the computer at the church. I have created the church user info, and then tired to restore backup files to the powerchurch program on the laptop. when I run the restore backup, it indicates there are no errors in restoration. I have tried a couple of different data sticks AND backup on a CD, they all come out the same way. Instead of being able to enter data into "white" fields, there is only grey. When I drill in, the information that I ahve entered shows up, but I am unable to add/change or modify anything.
It almost seems that there is an access issue, but I cannot resolve what is preventing me from updating, as I have unclicked the "read only" box in properties.
I have worked with two other churches and done the same thing, without this problem occurring.
What am I missing?

You're trying to restore the data to the laptop using a backup taken from the machine at church. The laptop, what version of Windows is it running ??
When you installed Powerchurch on the Laptop, did you install it as a user with Admin permissions? Since you didn't have a database on the laptop, I'm assuming that you started the program without trying to convert older data. You mentioned that you entered the church registration data when you ran PC+ the first time. You then tried to do the restore from a flash drive, as well as a CD using the built-in Powerchurch restore utility.
When you did this, I'm assuming it was under PC+ System Admin permissions. Upon restore, the system should reindex the files, and then close. You would then need to reopen the program, and all the restored data should be available.
Yet you cannot access the data to change it. Are you accessing using the System Admin ID, or someone else's ID. It could be that the ID you're using does not normally have the access to those features of the program.

Re: BACKUPS
I tried accessing the information/program using the same ID that I used on the main computer.
Also, I'm not sure that the version of Windows application has anything to do with it. I tried doing the program download on three different computers (2 laptops and one PC), all give me the same result.
One Windows version is XP, I believe the other 2 are Vista. The last laptop is XP.
"When you did this, I'm assuming it was under PC+ System Admin permissions. Upon restore, the system should reindex the files, and then close. You would then need to reopen the program, and all the restored data should be available. "
I did open under SystemAdmin, which is what I saved the backup under.
I even tried reindexing, and still there is no access.
Are there any hidden program settings that I should be checking? Path files? Something like that?

Re: BACKUPS
There are issues with limited users on XP, that is, if you don't have System Admin permissions on the computer: http://powerchurch.com/support/kb/kbvie ... icle_id=41madmyes wrote:I tried accessing the information/program using the same ID that I used on the main computer.

Finally, you keep saying you 'downloaded' the program to your computer. How are you installing the program ?? Using the install CD ??
Installing Powerchurch on a standalone computer, with the computer account having admin authority, this sort of things should not be happening.
