hello,
we have two copies of our Powerchurch 9 one on the treasurers computer and the other on the office computer.
We would like to merge the two, however the treasurer is afraid to loose his data.
If he backs up and brings the disk here does that wipe out data here and vice versa??
thank you

Depends on what his data is.dynamite_the_only wrote:hello,

If he only has Accounting information, then all he has to do is backup the accounting data, and only the accounting data, then restore to the office computer.
If he has membership, contributions and accounting, then that's a different story. This is because you may have different data setup under membership and contributions, the system will have created internal index keys that are different, and finally, anything changes that the office may do to the membership data (or vice versa) would be overwritten with any restore from the other machine.
I take it that the treasurer does his work at home??

yes, the treasurer works out of his home... and understandably is worried about loosing data.

Is there a way? It would be really nice because he is starting to transfer some of the responsibility to me.

Re: Transfering data
thank you for that!
I have one more question. I am going to back up my data and the drive where I put the disk in is not one of the drop down options!
is there a way to add the E drive for example?
thanks

Re: Transfering data
Version 10 added a "Folder" option, that allows you to basically browse My Computer and save a backup anywhere.
In Version 9, you are limited to "Removable Storage Devices", such as floppy disk, CD-R (NOT DVD), zip drive, etc. Some flash drives show up as removable devices, some show up as local disks, so there is no guarantee with those drives one way or the other.

Jacquie,
just to let you know, you probably fall under the Example 2 or 3 area in that Knowledge Base article. You said you're moving contributions, as well as accounting (two different database areas), and that will involve verifying the envelope numbers listed in the church computer (if any) are the same as listed in the treasurer's computer as described in that article.
