I want to run two copies of ver 9 on the bookkeeping computer. One copy would be the complete accounting setup for both church and school. The other would have only the school accounting files, and would be restored weekly from a backup made at the school, where the school accounting is done. The school writes checks on their own checking account, but this info is also entered manually in the church accounting files.
We do not want the school to have access to the church accounting files, and this is the only way I can think of to do this.
Networking would not work, as there is no way to keep the church and school access seperated.
I have installed two copies of ver 9 with different names in different directories.
When I enter preliminary passwords and priveleges in the school copy, the same passwords and priveleges show up in the master church copy.
How can I keep the passwords and access seperate?
Would renaming the school copy something other than powerchurch/orls, work, or would it have to be installed on a different partition on the hard drive?
Run two copies of Ver 9 on one computer.

By default, v9 installs into a directory C:\PowerChurch\PCPLUS9. If you install into a separate directory like C:\PowerChurch\PCPLUS9_2 (the name doesn't matter so much, as long as it's different), then you've created a completely separate install. All the data files are contained within that directory in a Data folder, so there should be no overlap. You can then set up any permissions you want for that new install.
One thing you want to be careful not to do is install inside your existing PCPLUS9 directory, ie. C:\PowerChurch\PCPLUS9\PCPLUS9. That will cause all kinds of problems.
Also, make sure to rename your existing desktop icon prior to performing the 2nd install. That way, you'll have 2 icons instead of just overwriting the original one.
Since your church and school are technically the same organization, there aren't any licensing restrictions in this case. This does sort of hover over the grey area around the line though.

I don't see the grey area, since the school is an integral part of the Church. We allow them to do their own bookkeeping since they handle more money than the church, because of tuition and teachers pay. They write their own checks, on a seperate bank account, which must be signed by me as treasure of the Church, and one other designated person from the Church board of directors.
If a second license is realy required, what would it cost me?
I tried renaming both copies as ChurchFiles and SchoolFiles, both in C: on the hard drive. The problem of access names in one showing up in the other still exists. Do I have to do a complete reinstall of one or both of them, or put them in seperate partitions?
