Win 7 and MICR
Our church has an older MagTek Mini MICR PN 22522001. http://www.magtek.com/products_V2/check ... ations.asp I have the reader hooked up to a Win7 x86 machine and am running PowerChurch 11. When I launch the check reader app, asks to update runtime files. I click ok and then it scans the com ports to detect the check reader. It doesnt appear to be finding it and running a check through yields no result. The reader has a green light that flashes which indicates it needs to be initialized. I contacted MagTek and the response I received said for me to ask if a KB emulation MICR will work with PC11 using the correct format. Is there a fix, work-around, or solution for using the serial Mini MICR with Win7? Thanks.

Also, here is a link to download a set of drivers that are available on the Powerchurch site. These may be different than the ones listed in the above topic:

Neil, Thanks for the response. I do not have the usb version, I have the PS/2 model. I do not believe it requires drivers but I will look into this. I have not had a chance to test the check reader output to notepad either but I will try to get over to the church tonight or tomorrow. Thanks again.
Re: Win 7 and MICR
I understand. That topic covered a few problems for many different types of readers which is why I suggested it. I found that one KB emulation Magtek reader we bought needed to be adjusted so that it had the correct format, it was actually one of the early keyboard readers with the original keyboard type connectors. I had to get adapters so it would work with the PS/2 keyboard. In your case, it appears you will need the MICRBase program from Magtek in order to set the format.jbmitchell wrote:Neil, Thanks for the response. It can be found at Magtek here under the header MICR Readers and Scanners:

Re: Win 7 and MICR
Great. Unless the format has to be set for each pc, the reader should be set correctly internally because it was working with an older version on a different machine. Oddly enough, I had contacted MagTek in regards to this issue but they never mentioned this file. That reaffirms why I posted to this forum as well. Thanks again Neil.

The format should be locked in the reader's NVRAM, but the Notepad test will let you know for sure.jbmitchell wrote:Great. Neil,
I wanted to give you an update and another thank you for your help with this. Long story short, I had to hook a PS/2 keyboard to the pigtail on the check reader in order for it to show up in device manager. I installed the drivers from MagTek to the standard keyboard and voila. It is reading the checks and functioning properly in PC11. thank you for all of your assistance and input. Much appreciated.

Aha ... didn't realize that you hadn't done that. Yeah, I believe some (if not all) computers need to see a PS/2 type keyboard as an input device. The PS/2 reader becomes the keyboard when its reading the check MICR data.jbmitchell wrote:Neil,
