Upgrade Error 11.1 to 11.5

Post by RevWJones »

When I attempted my upgrade to 11.5 earlier, the following error msg appeared,"Cannot rename file foxtools.fll". I aborted the upgrade and allowed the install utililty to rollback all changes. Now I am getting other error msgs after login before main interface appears. My cd drive doesn't open on my server. I copied the CD content to a folder and ran the upgrade from there. I attempted to install to the same directory that 11.1 was installed in. I need your help. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any feedback.

First off ... you should NOT install v11.5 to the same directory as 11.1. This is an upgrade which involves a change to the database and you should allow it to install to its default (usually x:\Powerchurch\PCPLUS115, where x is your drive letter).

Since you're using a server, which I'm assuming is an actual server, not a office computer, do all the following from that machine directly, do not do this from a 'client' computer.

What I would do now is reinstall v11.1 from its CD, and then apply any Maintenance Releases. Make sure that it works properly and your data is OK.

Then do the upgrade to v11.5, allow it to install to its default location. Click on the new 11.5 icon that will be setup on the desktop, and let it know that you are upgrading from a previous version. It will then copy and update the database to the new 11.5 database schema.

Once it has finished, it will close. Open the 11.5 program again and verify your data, it should have migrated properly. Follow the directions in this Knowledgebase article to properly setup the PCPLUS115 directory for networking: https://www.powerchurch.com/support/kb.php?id=35&type=1, then go to each client and do two things:

1. Delete the 11.1 icon from each desktop (this is to make sure that the users are accessing the new program)
2. Map the new directory to the client, and run the NetSetup115 program as required in the knowledgebase article.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks, Neil. I read the manual and was able to install 11.5 to its own directory and everything seem to be in working order at this time. I did not go through re-installing version 11.1 since we are abandoning it anyways.

Again, thanks. HNY!!!!

Good to hear ... the only reason I suggested re-installing 11.1 was to make sure that the data did not get corrupted with the aborted install.
