Can't send email
We cannot send email. We get an error message that states that the connection has timed out. We use gmail and have verified that the setting are correct. But here is what we are using: smtp.gmail.com and TLS is checked. Authentication is on and we use the same username and password to access our office email account. We can send individual emails but not bulk emails. Does anyone have any ideas?
Re: Can't send email
Individual emails are not sent using the built in email module, they use your email program like Outlook. What you need to do is add the port to the SMTP server. Change your server setting to this: smtp.gmail.com:587, and then click on the TEST button to see if that takes care of the problem.rtinsky wrote:We cannot send email. I have tried that already and it didn't work. Also tried port 445. Both gave me the same error. Could this be firewall related?

Re: Can't send email
My gmail settings on my local email client is set to: SMTP.googlemail.com and the port is 465. I do not use gmail from PC+ however.

The best thing to do is see exactly what Gmail requires. I got the 587 from the Gmail settings page. That was the port used with TLS.tborgal wrote:My gmail settings on my local email client is set to: SMTP.googlemail.com and the port is 465. I do not use gmail from PC+ however.
These instructions can be found here:

If you're changing the port to 465, you need to change the security to SSL

Re: Can't send email
I am using Thunderbird and when setting up security the option is TLS/SSL so I guess you could use either port with them. I believe it made the selections automatically.

T-Bird does have a good database of settings ... however in PCPlus you have to select either TLS or SSL, and the ports must be entered correctlly.tborgal wrote:I am using Thunderbird and when setting up security the option is TLS/SSL so I guess you could use either port with them. Using T-Bird's settings are usually a good idea, as they do work most of the time.
FWIW ... rtinsky, I'd check the firewall program to make sure they have those ports open.
