Got a question or comment about PowerChurch that doesn't belong anywhere else? Why not post it here!?

Network an XP computer with Win 7 Powerchurch

Post by ECTAdmin »

I use PC 11.5 on a Win 7 computer. I want to network an XP based computer to use as a data input computer. I'm having trouble getting the PC Netsetup program to run because I can't map a network drive on the XP computer to my Win 7 PowerChurch location.

Do you have any ideas how to map the network drive bridging the XP platform with the Win 7 platform?

I have XP drives mapped to a Win7 drive without a problem. You have to make sure the Win7 drive is shared using the Advanced Sharing applet that can be found off a right click menu on the drive in question. You must share to EVERYONE with FULL PERMISSIONs for the system to see it.

Don't use the Windows 7 Homegroup sharing, that won't work. Then on the XP machine, go into {i}My Computer[/i] then My Network Places to make sure you can see the Win7 drive. If not, go into View Network Computers. If you don't see the Win7 box, you may need to make sure the Win7 machine is in the same Workgroup as the XP machine.

Once you see the Win7 machine, you should be able to see the drive under My Network Places, once there you should be able the Map Network Drive from the Tools menu of My Computer.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your help. I actually used Network Magic to facilitate mapping the folder. I'm up and running now and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Your suggestions helped me greatly.

That's good software definitely helps.

Suggestion for others... if you don't have a CISCO or LINKSYS router which the software usually is packaged with, a copy of Network Magic costs $39.95 from their website. However, I'd try my suggestions first they will probably work, and save you some $$$$ ;)
