Pocket PC Sync not responding

Post by PGMBC »

Please Help! Pocket Church Sync
Error: 1,733 Class definition PCPLUS11.50.HELPER is not found.
Method: FRMPCSYNC.PC10HELPER
Line #:2
Clicked OK.......

Selected PCPLUS10 for the directory and the following
Error:24 Alias name is already in use.
Method: FRMPCSYNC.VERIFYDATA FOLDER
Line #:9
Clicked OK and Pocket Powerchurch closed completely.

I read other topics regarding running the 2.4 v but that did not help. Not showing anything under the PCPLUS 10 directory when selected under the Pocket Church Sync

Using PCPLUS 11.5 and Pocket PowerChurch v2

Thanks

This is what I thought ... I didn't think that Pocket Powerchurch worked with version 11 due to the fact that they have dropped support of the program, primarily because PALM went out of business and the old Palm OS is no longer produced, and the new versions of Windows Mobile don't support the program either.

Your selection of the PCPLUS10 directory will not do you any good, as the data is out of date.

My data is not out of date. I just started using v11.5. I'm going to continue using the Membership, Record Keeping and Event Scheduling side only in v10. I will not use the Accounting or Contribution information in v10.
OR
Will this cause a problem.

Also, when you pull up pocket pc, it shows that v11 can be sync with the handheld. I'm trying to syn v10.

Thanks

I'd move everything to V11.5 ... for a number of reasons. If you're using everything on one machine, someone could accidentally click the wrong icon, and not realize they're updating the wrong database. Two ... any updates to do to Membership will not be seen in Contributions which means that you'll have to add any membership data there to have that data for reports and stuff.

You're also losing out on the updates to the membership area which includes additional options for information, event processing, and so on.. I would just do a complete conversion to 11.5, and just give up on using Pocket Powerchurch.

Question...
If I'm updating v10 membership, event scheduling and record keeping only and copying the data to a USB flash drive, Will I be able to use the flash drive of v10 updates to maintain the membership, event scheduling, and record keeping only in v11.5?

NO .. . the database is quite different in the two versions. Thats why you should upgrade everything. Its best to network any two computers and use one as the 'server'. Otherwise you will start having 'sync' issues if one's membership information is updated, the other isn't, and you backup from the older data to the new, overwriting the newer data.

It just ISN'T a good idea to run two separate versions trying to maintain current data on both. I would keep the v10 setup just for historical information if necessary, and move EVERYTHING to v11.5, which does give you a better set of data screens, as well as membeship, attendance and contributions information in one place on a profile.

If you're worried about people having access to data they aren't supposed to, you can setup the password & user system to make sure they don't have that access.

Could you tell us how you're planning to use the system? Both computers in one office, one at home?

If you're planning on keep the accounting data on a separate computer, then I would just keep the accounting NOT the contributions. The contribution data does NOT need to reside on the same computer as the contributions. You can post contributions to a file, which then can be 'sneaker netted' to the accounting computer to import via a USB drive.

However, more details on what you're plans are would help.

I have it on my laptop at home and on the computer at church. I really want to get the membership information on the pda so that I want have to enter information into my handheld. This will be a one time situation to sync my pda with the membership data. Our membership is only 400 and we don't have a full time person there 24/7. When someone call me to schedule something, I can add it to my calendar or I will have their number and address available for whatever reason . I think it will allow you to print an updated calendar from the desktop. This will be very helpful.

FWIW .. I would look to see if the Palm contact application has an import facility for comma delimited files. You can export the data from Powerchurch 11.5 for import that way. Trying to keep version 10, version 11 and the PDA all in sync will probably take more than than you'll save.

Off topic ... (In my humble opinion) a church with 400 members should have a full time secretary or at least one part time 9 to 1 ..

Can't help you other than pointing you to the Powerchurch export module located under the Personal Profiles menu. As I said, I no longer have a Palm, it died about two years ago, and they don't make them any longer so there's not much more we can help you with.
