New PowerChurch v 9.0 User with v 8.5 data

Post by Paul C »

I am a new PowerChurch user. I installed v 9.0 on my computer, but our church's data up this point has been on v 8.5. Can I take a data export from someone else's computer in v 8.5 and import it to my computer in v 9.0? :?:

You can't just restore a backup from 8.5 in to v9. The data structures are very different in many cases, and would cause all kinds of problems. What you have to do is convert the data. To do this, you'd install v9 on the same computer as the 8.5 installation. The first time you run this new v9 install, it will ask if you have an existing version to upgrade. Choose yes, and follow the prompts to convert that data. Then, you can make a backup in that v9 install, and take that to the other computer.
